How to palpate each pulse in our body
Brachial pulse: In the antecubital fossa, just medial to the biceps tendon.
Carotid pulse: At the angle of the jaw, anterior to the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Femoral pulse: Just below the inguinal ligament, midway between the anterior superior iliac spine and the pubic symphysis (the mid-inguinal point).
Popliteal pulse: In the popliteal fossa, posteriorly in relation to the knee joint, at the level of the knee crease, deep in the popliteal fossa, and also by placing thumbs in front of the knee and fingers behind, pressing firmly in the midline, then sliding fingers 2–3 cm below the knee crease to compress the artery against the back of the tibia.
Posterior tibial pulse: 2 cm below and 2 cm behind the medial malleolus.
Dorsalis pedis pulse: By pressing against the tarsal bones just lateral to the extensor tendon of the great toe, on the forefoot, at the origin of the first web space just lateral to the tendon of extensor hallucis longus.
